Some high school sports teams moved in new divisions

Published:

Between Camp Verde, Mingus Union and Sedona Red Rock high schools, 28 sports were either realigned or re-evaluated by the Arizona Interscholastic Association into new divisions for the next three years.

The sectional opponents for each school and sport will be released Wednesday, March 4 — at which time athletic directors Mark Showers, Allen Mitchell and John Parks will have six days to appeal that choice.

They and every coach, no matter how they were affected by the move, had an opinion about either the placement, the process or both.

Mitchell is appealing for MUHS boys and girls track to remain in Division III. Otherwise the three-time defending state champ girls team, along with the boys and both tennis teams, will be playing larger high schools such as Flagstaff and Prescott in Division II — as will the Marauders softball team, over head coach John Brown’s objections.
