Flooding hits Verde Valley

Oak Creek temporarily claimed several RV lots at Sunrise Resort’s Page Springs campground on Sunday. The water level is about two-feet deep on the post for lot 54, where RV owners plug in for electrical service when camping. A few days of rain in the Verde Valley funneled into the creek, swelling it beyond its usual boundaries. About the time this photo was taken, an Arizona Department of Transportation truck was parked on the shoulder of Page Springs Road and its driver was taking a look at the bridge and powerful current beneath it about 100 yards downstream from the RV campground.

Flooding has hit several low-lying areas of the Verde Valley. A flash flood warning is in effect for Monday, March 2, and a winter weather advisory is set for elevations above 6,000 feet.

Be aware of potential flooding in lower areas of roads while driving. Residents with property in a flood zone should take proper precautions.

Snow is possible for lower elevations and winter driving conditions may be possible, especially in Oak Creek Canyon.
