Seniors thank Sedona for memories

Junior Dusty Dowdle, left, drives into the lane Jan. 27 against Chino Valley High School as senior Enicia Flores, No. 42, looks for the pass. Dowdle, Flores, and senior guards Rayana Chatter, Kayla Sandoval and Gerlaura Vaughn, will need to replace as much of the production as possible lost when senior center Mariah Daniels injured her knee Jan. 31 and was lost for the rest of the season.

The basketball seasons for the senior boys and girls basketball players at Camp Verde High School have pivoted around their cross-Valley rivals in nearly opposite ways.

Head Coach Dan Wall’s boys lost their final game Thursday, Feb. 5, at Horizon Honors High School, but two of their five wins this season have come in a season sweep of Sedona Red Rock High School.

But for head coach Mark Showers’ girls, despite a sweep of the Scorpions, the rivalry may just be beginning. Four of Showers’ seniors faced SRRHS in their Division III, Section III tournament Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Washington High School.

His fifth, star center Mariah Daniels, was lost for the season after she landed on her knee wrong in the fourth-ranked Cowboys’ Jan. 31 road game against the Scorpions.
