The Camp Verde Town Council is considering the future of properties owned by the town, in particular an aging shopping center and the current municipal courtroom, which court officials feel are in need of expansion.
The council discussed the matter at a work session on Jan. 14.
The Rio Verde Plaza, built in the early 1980s, was purchased by the Town of Camp Verde in 2004. The building is off Main Street and is home only to the monthly book sales hosted by the Friends of the Camp Verde Library.
The council had originally planned to tear down the building for the possible creation of a tour bus parking area with the hopes of bring more visitors downtown.
That didn’t happen, and soon the town found itself in the commercial real estate management business.
