Clarkdale to buy land for effluent

Published:

The town of Clarkdale is buying 82.6 acres of land it had been leasing to dump treated wastewater.

The most recent five-year lease with landowner Clarkdale Minerals ends this year and the town found that the company was looking to sell the land, near Miller Road.

Town council voted to purchase the land for $459,000 to secure a location for effluent disposal.

If some other entity bought the land, there might be an issue over allowing the town to continue its operation.

Some of the land could also be set aside for future development.

“I think that it’s going to pay off in the long run,” said Beth Escobar, a town planner. “This is industrial developable land.”

“We felt it was in the best interests of the town for a number of reasons.”
