Cowboys end season in fourth

Published:

Head Coach Lori Showers ended her first season as Camp Verde Middle School head volleyball coach in fourth place at the Verde Valley Conference tournament.

The Cowboys [7-11] went 2-2 in their four matches they played over two days in the tournament Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25, in the High Desert Arena at West Sedona School.

“We finished right in the middle of the pack,” said Showers, long-time volleyball coach at Camp Verde High School, after a three-game loss to Mayer Elementary School in the third-place match. “As long as I can remember, we’ve never lost to Mayer.

“I was kind of surprised — there were four teams that were very similar — but I looked at what they had, and they’re a solid team.”

Eighth-grader Carlee Oesterreich led the Cowboys in ace serves during the tournament, while Bennett Holm led CVMS in kills to both make the all-tournament team.
