Violations defined loud and clear

The Town of Camp Verde recently reworded its noise ordinance to be more specific and quantifiable, after a case had been dismissed for lack of evidence. The ordinance now gives specific decibel measurements and times noises can occur. For example, it is now unlawful to repair, rebuild or test any motor vehicle, like this Volkswagen, between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. in residential areas.

The Camp Verde Town Council approved a revised set of rules governing noise, rules that make what constitutes a violation a bit clearer for the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office and code enforcement officials.

The new measures were approved at the council’s Oct. 15 meeting.

The previous rules that addressed noise violations were a bit vague, said Bruce Girnt, a commander with the marshal’s office.

The new rules replace a few short paragraphs with several pages of more clearly-defined descriptions of what a noise violation is.

Girnt said that the previous rules didn’t provide much guidance and that the updated rules allow enforcement officials more direction.

“An officer would arrive on scene and as with any situation there are two sides of the story,” Girnt said.
