From the cool of a Surprise evening Saturday, Oct. 4, three local club wrestlers emerged victorious.

Another four young Cottonwood athletes also brought home medals from the Under the Lights tournament at Surprise Stadium.

“Most tournaments are held in windowless gymnasiums from sunup to sundown,” said Klint McKean, head coach of the wrestlers in the Mingus Mountain wrestling club. “Wrestlers are not accustomed to grappling on a baseball diamond.”

Out of more than 350 wrestlers grappling at the Under the Lights tournament at Surprise Stadium, third-grader Nathan Dixon, fourth-grader Kai Miller and eighth-grader Trent Miller scored the ultimate prize in their preseason tournament Oct. 4.
