Yavapai College is establishing a committee of residents from the Verde Valley to advise the college’s governing board.

The move comes after complaints from some that the college wasn’t getting enough input from the Verde Valley.

Much of that complaint was expressed by people in public meetings around the area.

Some of it was after the college released its 10-year plan for the future of the school.

A report considered by the board last year predicts that Yavapai County’s population will grow by 23 percent in the next 10 years, with most of the increase centered in the Prescott Valley area.

There were some suggestions that perhaps the Verde Valley side of college operations split into a separate entity or operate with more autonomy.

Short of those steps, the college is going to try the committee method.

Yavapai College Verde Valley Campus Dean James Perey worked on putting together the framework for this new commission.
