Although the Clarkdale-Jerome School volleyball “A” team hasn’t quite played everyone in the Verde Valley Conference, it has swept through the first half of its schedule.

“By the end of the first week, actually, it was evident we had a lot of eighth-graders with quite a bit of experience,” head coach Lynda Chavez said. “In fact, some of them had already been playing club ball together.”

Eighth-graders Kaitlyn Card, Delaney Hartnett, Lindsey Jones, Ashley Loring, Cadence Nislycalaci, Mackie Radd, Yaretzy Romero, Lilly Sanchez and Mia and Sarah Williams had an instant chemistry with the rest of the players on the “B” and “C” teams.

“You never know, but I had a pretty good idea we could put together a pretty good team.”

With their second win Tuesday, Sept. 23, over the Pine Strawberry Elementary School, the only team in the conference the Mingus Rams have not yet defeated is Camp Verde Middle School which they will host Tuesday, Oct. 7.
