The proposed logo that was part of Cottonwood’s rebranding effort was rejected by the City Council.
The council had been working on possible designs for a new logo for months, bringing in a branding consultant to help with creating new designs.
A committee has been looking at options with the help of a branding consultant and the city had decided to move forward with a logo that included a wine glass and a cottonwood leaf in the shape of a heart.
The council went forward with opting for the wine glass logo over one that featured a cottonwood tree, the Verde River and a representation of Old Town
in the background.
The council changed its mind at its regular meeting Sept. 2.
The council approved the slogan “Heart of Arizona Wine Country” for branding, but rejected the new logo, said Matt McClean, deputy city clerk.
“They didn’t approve it,” McClean said.
Instead, the council directed staff to modernize the current city logo.
McClean said it wasn’t immediately known what kind of timeline the city was looking at before bringing back more options.
The rejected wine glass logo had been worked on by Scott Havice, the consultant brought on to the project of helping to work with the logo committee.
