Martin doing ‘Green Acres’ thing

Published:

Richard Martin doesn’t really miss Ohio all that much.

He’s still got family there but he has no problem trading in those winters for the ones in Arizona, where he’s lived the last 15 years.

For the past eight of those years, Martin has called Camp Verde home.

Martin said he had lived elsewhere in the state but was looking for a place where he and his wife, Diane, could keep animals.

“We’ve got horses and chickens,” Martin said. “I’m doing the whole ‘Green Acres’ thing.”

Martin and his wife also run a shop downtown on Main Street.

It opened in March after a former health food store closed down.

The shop is a bit eclectic, Martin said, offering everything from jewelry and hats to eggs and grass-fed beef that comes up out of Orme Ranch.

Martin said the shop also carries local honey out of Rimrock after a honey shop there had to close down its space.

There’s also ice cream.

Martin said that sometimes people ask about whether he has available Wi-Fi and things like that, but that’s not what he’s going for.
