Gagnon measures volleyball success by personal growth

Published:

With few certain but several expected players returning to the Camp Verde High School volleyball program, new head coach Dan Gagnon teaches clearly and simply.

“Too tight. Stand further back,” he told Dusty Dowdle, Gabby Ontiveros and four other Cowboys volleyball hopefuls at an open gym Thursday, July 31, at CVHS.

“Two rules: Jump high and swing hard,” he told Ontiveros, and the junior responded with a thunderous spike over the net into the far right corner of the zone.

After some more bumping and spiking repetitions, Gagnon huddled the group of six — which did not include seniors Adrianna Cordova, Mariah Daniels, Kayla Sandoval and Viola Logston and juniors Brianna Ferguson and Kaylee Oesterreich, all expected to return and play key roles this fall for the Cowboys varsity volleyball team.

“Did we get better just now?” Gagnon asked the group.
