The Cottonwood Clippers had a late end to an impressive summer Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Grand Canyon State Games.

Mingus Union High School junior swimmers Caleb Furey and Sean Williams, along with freshman Gunner Tillemans and 12 other Clippers swimmers, all medaled at the Arizona State University summer meet that officially ended the season for the Cottonwood recreational club team.

“They took a lot of firsts, they took a lot of seconds,” said Clippers head coach Daniel Nevarez, who drove down with Furey to watch the Marauders junior medal in three events. “Every single one of them did a fantastic job.”

Nevarez had every one of his A-prep and B-team swimmers taking at least one medal from five swim events most Clippers swimmers entered.
