TAPCO river access point opens

Published:

A large gathering of people congregated on the banks of the Verde River in Clarkdale last week.

They came from all walks of life but the river is one thing they all have in common.

They were there to celebrate the official opening of the town’s newest access point to the river Wednesday, June 18, christened the Lower TAPCO River Access Point.

Named for the nearby decommissioned power plant, its familiar smokestack towering just upstream, the site is easily accessible and clearly marked by signage a bit shy of three miles down Sycamore Canyon Road from the Tuzigoot bridge.

The site encompasses approximately 110 acres of land.

Clarkdale Town Manager Gayle Mabery started the event by thanking a long list of people who came together to help make this access point a reality.
