Cycling ride raises $400K to fight multiple sclerosis

Published:

More than 500 bicycle riders surmounted an accident that killed one of their own Saturday, May 17, to raise more than $400,000 to fight multiple sclerosis.

Coming from as far away as Canada and Ireland, 535 avid bike riders rode as far as 100 miles on three different loops from the Verde Valley Fairgrounds to Sedona and back, both solo and in teams, in the third annual BikeMS: Ride the Vortex race that concluded Sunday, May 18.

Cottonwood City Councilman Jesse Dowling, whose wife, Kami, suffers from multiple sclerosis, was one of those riders, raising more than $2,000 personally and $6,200 among his Ride for Wife team to fight the disease.

“To afford the medication, cope with the costs and get it down to where it’s affordable, that is its own event,” he said.
