Cowboys’ top two golfers go in different directions heading into postseason

Published:

The top two golfers for Camp Verde High School finished the regular season Saturday, May 10, in Sun City West heading in opposite directions.

No. 1 golfer Joel Beauty shot a 39 through the back nine holes of the Metro Invitational for his seventh Division III state tournament qualifying round. However, he will be the Cowboys’ only representative Friday, May 16, at the Division III state tournament in Prescott, as fellow sophomore Vance Tewawina fell one such round short of joining him.

“He shouldn’t be mad at himself,” said Beauty, who was introduced to the game his first month in high school when Tewawina and his brother, Wilfred — a former two-time CVHS state qualifier who plays the sport for Pima Community College in Tucson — took him out to Verde Santa Fe Golf Course in Cornville to shoot a round in August 2013.

Beauty will be the Cowboys’ only representative May 16 through 17 at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Chino Valley just outside of Prescott, as Tewawina shot in the upper 90s in 18 holes each day of the Metro Invitational, held at the Palmbrook Country Club in Sun City West.
