Hawks knock Marauders out early

Just like that — season over.

After a start to its first Division II season that dreams are made on, the Mingus Union High School baseball team’s season was put to sleep Tuesday, May 6, by the perfect nightmare — a 15-1, five-inning home loss in the Marauders’ state tournament opener to No. 12 seed Gila Ridge High School.

Junior Orlando Machado’s solo home run in the second inning was the only highlight for the Marauders [23-7-1] on a gusty day in which his pitches, as well as those of starter Marshall Shill and two others, were driven into the gaps of the infield and outfield, while virtually every MUHS hit found its way into a Gila Ridge glove.  

“Hey, they’re a good team,” said head baseball coach Bob Young. “They made every play.”
