Mingus sprinters rule Red Rock races

Senior Justine Taylor, front, and junior Allison Whitworth fail to connect on the final baton pass in the 4x100 meter relay Saturday, April 5, disqualifying the Mingus Union High School girls track team from that event at the Red Rock Invitational at Sedona Red Rock High School. Taylor, though, would rebound to place first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Mingus Union High School sprinter Justine Taylor shattered her 100- and 200-meter dash personal records, while fellow senior Ryan Talbot captured gold in the 400-meter and 4×400 relay Saturday, April 5, at the Red Rock Invitational.

The Marauders scored 69 points to finish third in the girls competition, 7.5 points behind first-place host Sedona Red Rock High School. The boys team scored 52.5 points for fifth place.

“We’re seeing a lot of positive things, a lot of PRs,” Marauders head track coach Yancey DeVore said. “I know there’s been a lot of hard workers out there — Talbot, Taylor, Monica Soliz, Heather Calandra, Dakota Hanks, Bradley Gemmill — and you know what? It’s contagious.”
