Camp Verde High School senior Kimmy Watkins is not just six points in three games in the varsity scorebook for the 2013-14 girls basketball season.

On the contrary, Watkins is a player who, although only 4-feet-10-inches tall — “maybe stretching 4-foot-11-inches,” her mother Kathy Watkins said — her coaches, teammates and even officials know she can make something special happen every time she enters a game.

“She’s an inspiration to all of us,” CVHS girls basketball coach and Athletic Director Mark Showers said. “She just works hard and is one of our cheerleaders.”

That inspiration includes making 18-foot jumpers, which the special needs student has done in three games for CVHS so far this year — in wins over Parker and Wickenburg high schools as well as the

Box Out Breast Cancer Classic in Prescott Valley on Jan. 11, in a loss to higher-division Bradshaw Mountain High School.

“I come with her to every practice, I sit with her at every game,” Kathy Watkins said. “Kimberly doesn’t play in away games: She has to be watched, she has to have supervision. I drove her to Prescott Valley.”
