The Verde Valley wine industry reached another milestone last week with the groundbreaking for the Southwest Wine Center Teaching Winery at the Clarkdale campus of Yavapai College.

A large crowd gathered Nov. 19 by the handball courts, housed in a building that will eventually become the center of the college’s wine program.

As the region continues to expand on growing grapes and supporting wine tourism, the college is working to stay on top of the trend to educate people locally to work in the industry.
