Councils to vote on civil unions

Greg Luckey and his partner Marc Luckey, right, the Sedona Verde Valley Pride president, plan on forming a civil union once the 30-day waiting period is up. While Jerome and Sedona have officially approved civil unions, Cottonwood and Clarkdale have yet to do so.

Cottonwood and Clarkdale are looking to bring back prepared ordinances that, if approved, would recognize civil unions and domestic partnerships in those towns’ jurisdictions.

Both municipalities discussed the issue at work sessions earlier this month. Since the discussions were held in work sessions, no action was taken, although both councils asked their town staffs to come back with something at a later meeting.

In Cottonwood, the measure is tentatively set to come up at the Tuesday, Nov. 5, meeting, Deputy City Clerk Matt McLean said.
