Buss to play basketball with Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes

Published:

A third player from the Cowboys girls basketball team’s dynamic senior trio will soon continue playing at the collegiate level.

Donnie Buss, a three-sport Camp Verde High School varsity letterman, signed a letter of intent to play for the Chandler-Gilbert Community College Coyotes this upcoming season.

Buss leaps above Window Rock High School defenders during the 2013 Division III Arizona Girls State Basketball Playoffs in February at the Northern Arizona University Sky Dome.Buss received a partial scholarship with the junior college after the Coyotes coaches noticed the aggressiveness of the 5-foot-9-inch guard in the 2013 Arizona Girls State Basketball Playoffs. After Window Rock knocked the Cowboys out in the second round in February, the Coyotes coaches approached Buss and asked her to try out at the school’s showcase.

Buss impressed them enough at the showcase to inspire Coyotes Head Coach Cassandra Yancey, a former Northern Arizona University Lumberjack basketball player, to ask her to be part of the team right then and there.

“I’m excited because I get to keep playing the sport I love,” Buss said. “And to stay in shape over the summer. I was sad when we lost [in the playoffs]. I wasn’t done with basketball.”

Arizona Christian University, the same basketball program that signed Buss’s best friend and teammate, Amanda Showers, showed some interest in Buss, but she didn’t pursue it.
