The Camp Verde Middle School softball team is undefeated in league play, just like last year, and is definitely a threat to win the championship. It has only lost one game all season — a non-conference game to Cottonwood.
“I wish I could say it was all me, but it’s not, it’s the girls,” CVMS Softball Head Coach Steve Stone said. “The girls play team ball and bring tremendous talent. We have our share of rookies but they’ve been picking it up quickly.”
Shortstop Nieja Gardner and second baseman Kayla Hackett have emerged as two of the team’s standouts.
“Nieja crushes the ball and is an amazing ballplayer,” Stone said. “Kayla is super fast and plays hard.”
Seventh-grader Serenity Garcia, the team’s catcher, also has been a star and had the play of the year, according to Stone.
