The Mingus Union softball team dominated Head Coach John Brown’s former team, the Sedona Red Rock Scorpions, beating its Division III rival 15-0 in a conference game Thursday, March 21, at Mingus Union High School. The Marauders [4-6] kept the Scorpions [4-2] scoreless while scoring 15 runs with a burst in the fourth inning, including one home run.
“It was bittersweet,” Brown said after the game. “I love those kids. That was team for four years, so that was tough on me. But we need to win those power point games.”
With Sedona sophomore Emily Aitken pitching, Marauders Bailey Mabery and Randi Moffitt were able to score two runs right away in the first inning.
The Scorpions struggled to hit Marauders senior Angelina Saucedo’s killer curveball. Saucedo pitched five innings and recorded nine strikeouts. Her three strikeouts in the first inning sent the Scorpions back on the field.
