Calandra aims to shot put at Olympics

A small-town girl has big-time potential in the shot put ring.

Heather Calandra, a junior at Mingus Union High School, is already a state champion shot putter in just her second year of competing in the event, and she has been working with an Olympic-level thrower during the offseason to become even stronger.

Calandra has been working with Mike DiQuattro since the end of August.

DiQuattro, an athlete who has been a top thrower at both the high school and college levels, competed in the Olympic Trials in 1988.
