Marauders girls finish second in state finals

Published:

The Mingus Union High School Marauders made it through the quarterfinals and a couple steps further: to the Division III state championship final game.

The No. 3-seeded Marauders were considered underdogs throughout the tournament.

In Round 1, the Marauders had home field advantage against No. 14 Safford Bulldogs on Jan. 29. The Marauders showcased their superior skills and talent over the Bulldogs, outscoring Safford 5-0. The Marauders’ defense excelled with intensity.

“This year, we are young, we lost our feature forward before the season started. If we make it to the quarterfinals of the state tournament, that will be success. Everything else will be a bonus,” Mingus Union girls soccer Head Coach Bud Rhodes said.

Rhodes has been saying that all year long.
