Marauders lose composure and game to Eagles

Published:

The Mingus Union High School boys basketball team [7-9] lost to the Flagstaff Eagles [8-6], 66-32, on Tuesday, Jan. 8, in a Division II, Section II conference match. The Marauders struggled offensively in front of a home crowd against a big rival, and their frustration showed from the start.

Mingus had a tough time getting the ball in the basket as the Eagles played a hard, in-your-face defense. This caused the Mingus Union players to be aggressive and physical as evidenced by the number of foul shots and technical foul shots taken by the Eagles.

Forty-five percent of the Eagles’ points in the first half came from free throws. A technical foul was called on Marauders senior Rashonn Montgomery, one of the team’s top players, early in the game, and Marauders Head Coach Mark Owens pulled him out of the game due to an on-court incident. Montgomery kicked his chair on the bench and walked to the locker room. He didn’t play another minute of the game.
