5 of 7 Town Council seats up for grabs

Published:

One election down and there’s another one right around the corner.

Five seats are up for grabs on the Camp Verde Town Council, including the mayor’s position.

Three of the open seats are for four-year terms, which are seats currently held by Vice Mayor Bob Kovacovich and Councilwomen Jackie Baker and Robin Whatley.

One seat is for a two-year term; the seat Councilwoman Jessie Jones was appointed to when Alan “Buck” Buchanan resigned from council to run for the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors in the newly created District 2. Buchanan lost his bid for the board seat.

The mayor’s position, currently held by contractor Bob Burnside, is always a two-year term.

Deputy Town Clerk Virginia Jones said at least five people have either been given packets or pulled one themselves, including businessman Steve Goetting, who has indicated he will run for mayor.

Goetting is a local event organizer who is responsible for pulling off the annual Pecan, Wine & Antique Festival since the town dropped sponsorship, as well as the organizer for the annual Kingdom of the Spiders movie celebration.
