Local National Night Out is state’s biggest

Call him Mr. National Night Out.

Jim Iocovacci, Cornville resident, retired police officer from Flint, Mich., and coordinator of the Cottonwood National Night Out has been involved in the nationwide event to promote community safety since it started 29 years ago.

Since his involvement with the National Night Out in Cottonwood began three years ago, the event has tripled in size, with 1,500 residents expected to attend this year’s event on Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Cottonwood Kids Park.

The event will feature free hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and snacks, informational displays from city and county organizations and area businesses, fingerprinting, face painting, bounce houses and live music from country singer Brandon Shepard.

“We have one of the best National Night’s Out in Northern Arizona, without a doubt,” Cottonwood Police Chief Jody Fanning said, quick to praise Iocovacci for his efforts.
