Cottonwood photographer publishes e-book about Jerome

Published:

Cottonwood photographer Jeff Colburn has published an e-book of photographs and history of Jerome.

Called “The Vanishing Old West — Jerome,” the 75-page book documents weathered and abandoned structures, vehicles, and objects, some of which disappeared right in front of Colburn’s eyes.

He said a flatbed truck pulled up when he was five minutes into taking pictures of the house that would be on the cover of his book.

“The driver said, ‘I own this, and I’m going to build a house here.’ At the end of the day the house was gone, as if it never existed,” Colburn said.

Another house in the book, Colburn said, was going to be demolished until a contractor bought it and rebuilt everything from the floorboards up.

“A lot of places are one good snow or one good storm away from collapse. I wanted to capture them before they were gone forever,” he said.
