When the painted wine barrels used to promote the Verde Valley Wine Trail go on display for the second year this summer, there will be many works of art on display by individual artists, but probably only one that is the work of an entire community.
Seniors at the Cottonwood Village retirement community are at work on a variety of projects which will be applied to a 50-gallon oak wine barrel and displayed at the front entrance to the building.
The artwork on the barrel will include fabric applique patches, wood carvings, paintings, and beads, rock and colored glass, and all the work will be done by residents.
Cottonwood Village Activities Director Le Anne Gregory said she heard about the barrels from the Cottonwood Village marketing director and “thought it was a great idea to bring us all together.”
When this year’s wine trail barrels are finished, 40 of them will be on display around the Verde Valley.
