Tavasci mosquitoes test positive for West Nile

Published:

The Yavapai County Community Health Services has issued an advisory regarding mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus.

The county health department found the virus during its weekly checks of the DNA of mosquitoes caught in traps in the Tavasci Marsh area.

While it is not unusual to find mosquitoes in the area carrying the virus, it does come earlier in the year than usual.

Yavapai County Community Health Services Public Information Officer David McAtee said the appearance of the virus is not cause for alarm, but caution is still recommended.

The virus, which mosquitoes spread to humans from infected birds, has an incubation period of three to 14 days.
