Strict fire restrictions in place

Published:

With smoke filling the air as firefighters battle the raging Gladiator Fire, which had burned more than 14,000 acres as of press time, fire restrictions remain in place throughout Yavapai County, municipalities in the area and on U.S. Forest Service Land.

Several firefighters from different communities have joined in the fight, including some from Camp Verde sent last week with all-terrain equipment to reach some of the more difficult areas of the blaze.

In Yavapai County, no open flames are allowed. That doesn’t include things like a backyard barbecue, but the county prefers those grills to be covered to prevent flame from accidentally spreading, said Denny Foulk, emergency management coordinator for Yavapai County.
