CVHS performs well in SkillsUSA

Published:

While they didn’t make it to the national competition scheduled for later this year in Kansas City, Camp Verde High School students made a strong showing at a recent SkillsUSA state competition, held at Phoenix Convention Center on March 27 and 28.

SkillsUSA is a career and technical organization that provides students with training across several skilled professions, ranging from auto repair to public speaking. It was originally known as VICA, or the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America.

The students earned spots to compete against other students from across Arizona after they did well at the regional held at Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood.

In Phoenix, student Emily Showers took home third place in prepared speech, Josh Gray took third place in extemporaneous speech while Jacob Crittenden, Cory Placek and Ryan Stockseth earned third place for their skill with welding fabrication.
