Scaturro plans to travel country for kids

Published:

If reaching 40 is “over the hill,” no one told Romano Scaturro. Almost 50, if Scaturro is over the hill, it’s only because he just finished bicycling up it.

The Cornville resident is no stranger to exercise most of the population might consider extreme.

Scaturro has been making long-distance bicycle rides for years since he started training in the 1980s.

Just two years ago, Scaturro rode his bicycle to every major league baseball park in the country.

“I’d have to say Fenway and Wrigley Field were my favorites,” Scaturro said.

Now the endurance athlete is preparing for another ambitious trek — to travel to all 50 state capitals, strictly under his own power.

It’s for a good cause. A few years ago, Scaturro founded FRAANK, Family Ride Across America to Nurture Kids. It’s a volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged and troubled children, both through raising money and public awareness.
