Mingus Union High School’s swimming and diving team hosted a larger Prescott High School team for a dual meet on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The Marauders girls proved to have much more depth, winning 94 to 68, and the boys won some key matchups against the Badgers’ faster swimmers to win 91 to 87 for a combined win of 185 to 155.

Camp Verde High School’s boys soccer team played against two weaker opponents from Conference 2A last week, but maintained its focus on improving.

The Cowboys [8-1, 3-0] have had trouble finishing their opportunities against tougher opponents. They used their latest two victories, which were both in the Central Region, to work on it.

After a heavy loss at homecoming the Friday prior, Mingus Union High School’s football team bounced back in a big way, powering its way to a 38-6 win at Prescott High School on Friday, Oct. 6.

The Marauders [3-4, 3-1] defense held the Badgers in check and out of the end zone throughout, save for a handful of big plays. Mingus dominated the battle in the trenches in the second half as well.

For 65 and a half minutes the Camp Verde High School girls soccer team held defending Conference 2A champion Chino Valley High School scoreless.

The Cowboys [3-3, 1-2] had at least a tie at their fingertips after going up 1-0 but conceded a goal off of a quick turnover nearly 20 minutes later.

Finally the defense that was holding on by a fingernail broke with one minute left, and the hosts fell 2-1 at home on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Camp Verde High School’s cross country team hosted its seventh Camp Verde Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Six schools participated, with three boys and two girls competing for the Cowboys.

A lack of consistency in all facets of the game saw Camp Verde High School’s volleyball team to a 0-3 defeat [11-25, 16-25, 8-25] at home in a nonleague match to 3A Chino Valley High School on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

The Cowboys [1-7, 1-1 Central Region] showed flashes of continuity in attack and defense. But they also allowed lopsided scoring runs to the Cougars.
