Mingus Union High School’s golf team secured a Division II, Region VII win by a wide margin against Bradshaw Mountain High School on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Prescott Country Club.

Two Marauders tied for first overall and another pair tied for third en route to a 40-stroke win. Nonetheless, on an individual level, it was not the outing they were looking for.

The Mingus Union High School swimming and diving team could not have asked for a better start to the season with a dual meet win against Northland Preparatory Academy, by a combined score of 178-171, on Thursday, Aug. 31.

Some Marauders swimmers collected personal bests, and save a few disqualifications, it was an overall strong outing for the first meet of the season.

Camp Verde High School’s volleyball team opened its season with a 3-0 loss on the road at Anthem Preparatory Academy on Thursday, Aug. 31.

The Cowboys [0-1] played strong in the first two sets, despite dropping both, before a rough final set ended it.

It took a little while for the Camp Verde High School girls soccer team to shake off its long bus ride to Holbrook High School but eventually pulled away for a 5-1 win on Thursday, Aug. 31.

The Cowboys [1-0] scored first through Jocelyn Fitzgerald, but later allowed the Roadrunners to even the game up. From there though, it was all Cowboys.

The Camp Verde High School boys soccer team started off its season with an 8-1 home win against Payson High School on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Despite dominating the game for the first 15 minutes in which it peppered the goal numerous times, the Cowboys [1-0] actually gave up the first goal.

Mistakes were numerous and costly as Mingus Union High School’s football team could not get out of its own way in a 21-20 loss to visiting Cactus Shadows High School on Friday, Sept. 1.

Five turnovers and 10 penalty flags for 112 yards kept the Marauders [0-2] from creating any momentum. The extra point try after their third score hit the left upright, and junior quarterback Antoine Zabala fumbled at the one yard line with 12 seconds left.

After suffering a 58-7 loss at Higley High School on Friday, Aug. 25, the Mingus Union High School football team saw a number of things to improve upon.

The Marauders [0-1] struggled in a number of facets of the game, and a lot of their problems stemmed from being overmatched in the trenches.

Mingus football was finally able to purchase a new blocking sled to help the linemen work on the their blocking skills and techniques.
