During this holiday season, stockings and leftovers have not been restricted to living room mantles or overflowing refrigerators.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department continues to stock local fishing areas with winter trout, and updated its 2018 spring first-come, first-served leftover permit listing.

Kids who grow up playing youth sports learn key values that lay the groundwork to be successful students and members of the community: Teamwork, sportsmanship, graciousness in victory and defeat, and hard work, to name a few.

The young grapplers at the Mingus Mountain Wrestling Club are pushed to learn those and a bit more, all the while taking some licks along the way.

And then there were three — the list of Mingus Union High School baseball players committing to playing at the next level grew on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Seniors Andrew Kulis and Jordan Huey penned their commitments to pitch for Chandler-Gilbert Community College beginning in the 2018-19 season.

Sometimes a team just needs shots to fall its way.

Despite being up by one with 1:32 left to go, the Mingus Union High School boys basketball team was unable to hold on in a wire-to-wire matchup against visiting Higley High School, losing 81-76 on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

The All-Conference 2A selections are in for fall sports, with five Camp Verde High School athletes from the football and boys soccer teams selected.

Boys soccer senior forward Nate Schultz took home the fall soccer season’s top honor as the Conference 2A Player of Year in addition to his pick as Central Region Player of the Year.
