Mingus Union High School’s volleyball team took on the No. 7-ranked Coconino High School Panthers in a Grand Canyon Region contest on Monday, Sept. 25, losing 1-3 [19-25, 25-23, 12-25, 14-25].

The Marauders faced off with the state’s leader in kills in senior outside hitter Dana Parker, who is committed to play beach volleyball at the University of Arizona.

Domination in the trenches propelled Camp Verde High School’s football team to a 21-14 Central Region win over Paradise Honors High School on Friday, Sept. 29.

The Cowboys [2-4, 1-2] entered the game plan with a plan to substitute its young linemen, who play on both sides of the ball, early and often to keep them fresh down the stretch.

It paid off.

The Mingus Union High School girls golf team had its first match close to home when it took on Prescott High School, along with three players from Page High School and one from Coconino High School.

The all-freshmen team of Marauders beat the Badgers at Oakcreek Country Club on Monday, Sept. 25, with Kaila Bowers finishing in the top spot individually. It was a rematch from Sept. 20 at Antelope Hills.

Goals in the early stages of each half lifted the Camp Verde High School boys soccer team to a 3-0
win against Northland Preparatory Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Senior Nate Schultz’s second of the game finalized scoring with less than two minutes remaining in what was an offensive onslaught that still left something to be desired in the Cowboys’ [6-1, 1-0] Central Region opener.

Mingus Union High School’s football team had a two-game winning streak going into its homecoming game against winless Bradshaw Mountain High School.

The visiting Bears [1-5, 1-1], the only team to defeat the Marauders [2-4, 2-1] in Grand Canyon Region play last season, ended that streak in a 45-16 rout.

Camp Verde High School’s girls soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win in its Central Region debut against visiting Payson High School on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The Cowboys [3-1, 1-0], who dominated possession throughout, were led by junior forwards Tyra Smith and Lupe Orta with two goals a piece. They have outscored their opponents 17-4 in their last five games.
