Cottonwood toddler dies after three-story fall

A 22-month-old Cottonwood boy has died after a from a third-story window.

Cottonwood Police, Fire & Ambulance personnel responded Friday, Oct. 27, to the 1700 block of East Elm Street during the early evening for a report of a toddler who fell from a window on the third floor.

It appeared the boy was sitting on top of the couch when he fell backward through the screen of a partially opened window, according to Cottonwood Police Sgt. Monica Kuhlt.

The boy was transported to Verde Valley Medical Center to be stabilized before being flown to Flagstaff Medical Center and eventually Phoenix Children’s Hospital where he died to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing pending the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s report.

At this point, investigators believe this was an extremely unfortunate tragedy and not a criminal matter, Kuhlt stated. No charges have been filed against the parents.
