Despite previously getting swept out of its one out-of-state tournament, June 28, capped a successful summer for Camp Verde High School’s basketball program.sophomore kaynen loring drives to the basket for Camp Verde High School ahead of defenders from Ash Fork High School in a round-robin tournament home game Saturday, June 28.

It was the last of seven marathon days of hoops for third-year head basketball coach Dan Wall, as the Cowboys finished their second annual two-day summer basketball tournament with only their second loss in six games, to Hopi High School.

“We didn’t play very well, but our legs were pretty far gone by that point, so I wasn’t too disappointed,” Wall said.

Due to last-minute dropouts from two scheduled participants, Mingus Union High School split into two separate teams — Black and Red — and the Cowboys took advantage, beating Black in the Marauders’ only loss of the tournament, played in the CVHS and Camp Verde Middle School gymnasiums.
