Mingus seniors make memories

With Mingus Union High School on the verge of Senior Day for its sixth-ranked baseball team and a Division II state softball tournament berth, memories are made of these moments.

Right fielder Kaetana Skornik, one of seven seniors for head coach John Brown’s Mingus Union High School softball team, steps up to bat April 11, in a 8-2 home loss to Flagstaff. The Marauders will make State if they move up a seed to No. 24 in Division II by Saturday, May 3.

For the seven seniors under head baseball coach Bob Young, their favorite memory was made by one of their own — first baseman Tyler Bond, whose walk-off grand slam beat Coconino High School, ranked eighth in Division II, 14-10 on Friday, April 25.

“That was just amazing,” Bond’s backup, Jonah King, said. “I have never seen such a dramatic comeback.”
