Several interests work to finalize SR 260 widening

Communities and governments in the Verde Valley are in the process of finalizing agreements to widen State Route 260 between Cottonwood and I-17 in Camp Verde.shortly outside of Cottonwood on State Route 260 heading towards Camp Verde, a four-lane highway bottlenecks down to two lanes, one in each direction. Eventually, at milepost 218 — as the speed limit significantly drops — the highway opens back up to four lanes. A proposed SR 260 widening project would make the entire stretch between Camp Verde and Cottonwood a four-lane divided highway, similar to State Route 89A between Cottonwood and Sedona.

That includes agreements between Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Sedona, Jerome, Yavapai County and the Yavapai-Apache Nation. The goal is to see the road upgraded to a four-lane divided highway.

The current effort was jump-started by the Town of Camp Verde earlier this year, which hired a consulting firm to help push the initiative forward.
