The Cottonwood Police Department has received a grant from the Arizona Department of Homeland Security to enhance its capabilities to operate dispatch services.Dispatch Trainee Michelle Etcitty, dispatcher Gretchen Groseta, Dispatch Manager Marie Carpenter and dispatcher Melanie Corsette, from left, answer 911 calls and send appropriate help. Cottonwood’s police dispatch recently expanded its services to include dispatching for the fire department, as well as surrounding towns, reinforcing the need for the new dispatch center currently under construction.

The $81,000 grant will be used to purchase new broadband radios, night-vision equipment and devices to assist firefighters’ breathing.

“This round of funding will be used to significantly enhance the department’s radio communications capabilities,” according to a report from Cottonwood Police Chief Jody Fanning’s office.

Acceptance of the grant was approved by the Cottonwood City Council at its regular meeting July 1.
