One of the newest officers with the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office has his own badge that he wears around his neck. He also has four legs and a tail.

Claymore, a 2½-year-old Belgian Malinois, is the new K-9 officer of the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office. Claymore lives with deputy Jeff Bowers, who brought his K-9 partner to the Camp Verde Community Library on Thursday, July 25, to meet the public. While Claymore is an officer with a badge, Bowers joked that he’s the only member of the force who doesn’t take home a paycheck. His name is Claymore and on Thursday, July 25, he stopped by the Camp Verde Community Library to meet local children.

“He’s an officer,” said Deputy Jeff Bowers, Claymore’s handler. “He’s just the only one that doesn’t collect a check.
Claymore is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois, a shepherd breed that is known for its work in law enforcement. Claymore became the department’s new K-9 officer after his predecessor Jake — a Czechoslovakian shepherd — died suddenly while he was preparing for the night shift with his partner Sgt. Oscar Berrelez. Jake was the CVMO’s first K-9 officer.
