Print Jerome forum hosts 11 Town Council candidates

Jerome may be a town with only around 450 residents, but 11 of them are running for Jerome Town Council in the Tuesday, Aug. 26, primary election.The town of Jerome held a candidates forum on Wednesday night in the Lawrence Memorial Hall, commonly known as Spook Hall, for the upcoming Jerome Town Council election, to be held on Tuesday, Aug 26. Candidates introduced themselves, talked about hot button issues and why they deserve to be on the council.

They all gathered at Spook Hall to introduce themselves and answer questions from residents in an Aug. 14 forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Greater Verde Valley.

The candidates for the five-member body include incumbents Mayor Nikki Check, Vice Mayor Lew Currier, Councilwoman Anne Bassett, Councilman Randall Hunt and Councilman Bill Finney.

Challengers include Christina Barber, Abe Stewart, Steve Pontious, Frank Vander Horst, Chad Hembrough and Douglas Freund.

No candidate runs for mayor directly, but the candidate who earns the most votes in the general election in November becomes the mayor.
