The Cottonwood City Council has approved changes to the city’s animal code

The city of Cottonwood has approved changes to its animal codes, which will take effect Thursday, March 21.The changes aim to address loopholes and violations in the current code that animal officials feel too often lead to cases of animal cruelty and neglect, according to a report issued by the city.

“There are a lot of changes,” said Matt McLean, deputy city clerk. “They changed a lot of things because some issues were a bit vague.”

The move was first suggested last year, based on the recommendation of the city’s animal control officers. The city’s staff researched animal codes from other towns before coming up with a new version for Cottonwood.
