Town hears construction criticism

The Town of Camp Verde adopted the 2012 International Building Codes in August, a standard that governs construction.Subdivisions like this one in Camp Verde are all built from one of a set of predetermined floor plans, and each house must be up to code. Recently, the Town Clerk rejected petitions to change the building code.

Some residents feel the codes are too restrictive.

Grant projects back in city cycle

The city of Cottonwood is considering possible future projects to fund with Community Development Block Grant funding.The groundbreaking for the 10th Street Improvement Project was on Sept. 3, 2013. Left to right are Mayor Diane Joens, Daniel Lueder, David Hausaman, Morgan Scott, Chris Biggs, Joe Link and Fire Chief Mike Kuykendall. The grants which fund these  projects are back and Cottonwood is determining new projects to be implemented.

The funds are given out on four-year cycles through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Survey shows efforts needed

Yavapai College needs to work to improve services to people in the Verde Valley.Results from a community survey that asked residents to provide opinions on Yavapai College and how it can be improved were presented at the most recent Camp Verde Town Council meeting. The survey garnered more than 1,600 responses, and the college plans on improving marketing and outreach, the courses it offers, as well as maintaining a price-conscious tuition rate.

That’s what college officials have taken away from the results of a county-wide survey.

Women roust some fun and games up for next town fair

Stacy Parson and Moe Davis aren’t from the Verde Valley, but they came to Camp Verde last week to play some games.Stacy Parson, right, and Moe Davis work for Midway West, and came to town to help set up the carnival for this past weekend’s Fort Verde Days Celebration. Prior to the carnival, Parson worked in the quarries near Ash Fork, while Davis used to work as a metal scrapper.

Also, they were planning to make a little money along the way.
