Jennings moves north after surgery removes a tumor

Robert Jennings wants to eventually retire in the Verde Valley. He’s also happy that’s an option. A few months back, Jennings went to the doctor with some discomfort in his side.Born and raised in Tucson, Robert Jennings worked as a contractor, but after having surgery to remove a kidney tumor, he said he was looking for something a little less strenuous. Jennings and his wife, Lauren, decided to move to Camp Verde, where Lauren’s mother already lived. Today, Jennings wears an Arizona State Parks uniform as he greets visitors and helps out with other work at Fort Verde State Historic Park.

Council debates split from college

Yavapai College is reorganizing its presence in the Verde Valley as part of a 10-year plan approved by the college’s board of directors in December.Yavapai College discusses its 10-year plan with Camp Verde’s leaders, and Town Councilwoman Carol German was among them. German was involved with the college when classes were taught in Camp Verde. The college used Town Hall as its campus.

Kids outgrowing after-school space

The Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Department has been running an after-school program that’s grown in popularity.Children play at Cottonwood Recreation Center’s after-school program. The program provides a safe place for kids to go after school with lots of fun activities and assistance with homework. The program is outgrowing the space available, and is trying to partner with Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District to allow for more comfortable expansion.

Library celebrates Hitchcock films

Suspense was in the air last Wednesday, March 12, at the Camp Verde Community Library, where the day was spent in recognition of a master of the genre.Camp Verde Community Library celebrates its Alfred Hitchcock Day on March 12. The library played director Sir Alfred Hitchcock’s films throughout the day, like the classic 1960 thriller “Psycho.”

CVMO may offer dogs for therapy

The Camp Verde Marshal’s Office is exploring offering a therapy dog program.Dogs have been called man’s best friend, due to their loyalty, playfulness, and protectiveness, as well as eagerness to please, as shown by Lucky Dog, owned by Jimmy Pierce. Because of these qualities, the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office is exploring the  implementation of a therapy dog program.
