Strike up the band, it’s a brand new year.With the woodwinds in front and the brass toward the rear, the Cottonwood Community Band assembles for practice. The band, led by conductor Will Norris, practices every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Cottonwood Middle School band room.​

As 2015 gets rolling, so does the Cottonwood Community Band. The band, made up of several musicians in the area, held its first meeting of the new concert season this week.

Cottonwood’s got talent.Lela Winant took on Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” last year at the Cottonwood Idol tryouts, a big song for a 13-year-old. The judges took note of her voice, and also said she had a great look.

The Cottonwood Fire Department is changing its name.The Cottonwood Fire Department will soon be changing its name to the Cottonwood Fire and Medical Services Department to better reflect what it offers to the surrounding community. The department employs 15 full-time paramedics and 12 full-time emergency medical technicians. From left are EMT Bill Matson, EMT Ben Kramer, paramedic Brady Casson, paramedic and Fire Chief Mike Kuykendall, paramedic Larry Wright and EMT Javier Anguiano.​

The department will now be called the Cottonwood Fire and Medical Services Department.
