Retail sales rise in city for May Print E-mail

Total transaction taxes collected across most of the Verde Valley were lower last month than during the same time last year.Though the heavy construction of erecting the building is complete, construction crews work to finish the interior of Cottonwood’s new dispatch center on Monday, June 23. The building is funded through general fund taxes, and will dispatch for areas outside of Cottonwood, such as Jerome and Clarkdale.

The city of Cottonwood was the only exception.

A large gathering of people congregated on the banks of the Verde River in Clarkdale last week.Clarkdale held its grand opening of the Lower TAPCO River Access on June 18. The ceremony came to a close with the ribbon cutting, officially marking the access point as open. Town Manager Gayle Mabery, third from left, opened the ceremony.

They came from all walks of life but the river is one thing they all have in common.

Glider pilots swoop into Cottonwood airport Print E-mail

Last weekend, people targeted Cottonwood from the skies and descended on the town.A motorized glider sits parked at the Cottonwood Airport on Thursday, June 12, the first day of the Touring Motor Glider Association fly-in. The crafts all can fly up to altitude on their own, rather than having to be towed, and then turn the motor off and glide.

It wasn’t dangerous, however, as everyone came to have a good time.

Police raise funds for K-9 statue Print E-mail

A bronze statue of a police officer was recently unveiled in front of the Cottonwood Public Safety Building on Sixth Street, a memorial to all who have served in the line of duty in law enforcementCottonwood Police Department is considering a statue  representing K-9 dogs. Camp Verde Marshal’s Office has a similar memorial to its first K-9, Jake, however Cottonwood’s memorial would be a cast bronze police statue like “The Calling.”.
