A couple of break-ins over the past few months left a local thrift store in a tight spot.The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has a thrift shop on Fir Street in Cottonwood, one of a few throughout the Verde Valley. Recently the shop was the victim of two break-ins.

Burglars broke into the St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store off of Fir Street in Cottonwood, on Dec. 12 and Jan. 2.

Starting up a new small business isn’t easy.Eric Marcus, executive director of the Northern Arizona Sustainable Economic Development Initiative, speaks at a  financial meeting. The initiative, along with the Cottonwood Economic Development Council and the Verde Valley Regional Economic Organization, held the meeting to talk about their loan programs available for small business owners, along with assistance to help with a viable business plan. The loans could also help with  expansion of an existing business.​

It takes dedication, a work ethic and above all, a good idea.

Roger Every’s not sure how elephants first got hooked on peanuts. He’s pretty sure it started at the circus.Roger Every spoke at the Clemenceau Heritage Museum last week about his time in the circus. Now retired in Jerome, Every spent over 45 years traveling across the country with various circus acts, but nearly always working with performing animals.
